Description

This training helps participants recognize trauma, understand its impact on the brain and body, and identify and apply interventions to trauma related behaviors. This course is meant to provide foundational information on trauma for anyone that is new to the topic or would like a refresher on trauma basics.

Trainees will also learn about the impact of trauma on their clients, themselves, and in the working relationship between child welfare professionals and clients.  Specific skills in how to apply trauma-informed practices in working with clients will be provided.

Objectives

Participants will: 

  1. Define trauma, traumatic stress, toxic stress, and resilience
  2. Identify how trauma affects behavior and development
  3. Evaluate the stages of dysregulation and apply interventions
  4. Incorporate strategies of trauma-informed care best practices
