Description

Trauma and Resilience: This training helps participants recognize trauma, understand its impact on the brain and body, and identify and apply interventions to trauma related behaviors. This course is meant to provide foundational information on trauma for anyone that is new to the topic or would like a refresher on trauma basics.

Empathic Strain: This training helps participants develop an understanding of Empathic Strain and how certain factors can increase this risk. In this course, participants will discuss how accountability and supports can mitigate this. Participants will also learn strategies and develop ideas on how to limit the strain that can be experienced on a daily basis.

Objectives

Trauma and Resilience

Participants will: 

  1. Define trauma, traumatic stress, toxic stress, and resilience
  2. Identify how trauma affects behavior and development
  3. Evaluate the stages of dysregulation and apply interventions.

Empathic Strain

Participants will:

  • Identify signs and symptoms related to secondary traumatic stress
  • Define empathic strain and evaluate how different factors increase risk for empathic strain
  • Recognize the different support structures around you that might provide meaningful accountability
  • Compare and contrast the habits that contribute to one's empathic capacity
