Participants will be trained to be an Online Safety Trainer, an individual who can help parents and guardians learn how help safeguard their children online and help school professionals to implement online safety and digital citizenship discussions into their classrooms. Participants in this one-day Train the Trainer course will be equipped to deliver Online Safety for Parents, Guardians, and the Community training course for their school community.   Background: Kids have access to screens and devices at a very early age. Today’s youth have instant access to the world through phones, computers, gaming systems, and other devices. Technology and online platforms are here to stay and provide numerous benefits. But we know there are also risks associated with online access and as adults we will also be playing catch up to the newest technology trend. Parents are struggling to safeguard their children in a world where the youth use of technology consistently outpaces their parents’ knowledge of the programs. So how can we help keep kids safe online from the time they first have access to a device until they are teenagers? The Project Harmony Training Institute recently released Online Safety for Parents, Guardians, and the Community. The training empowers parents, caregivers, and those who care about kids to engage in regular, age-appropriate conversations with youth about benefits, risks, and what to do if something happens online. The training includes resources and information from The National Center for Missing and Endangered Children (NCMEC) and other helpful resources. The National Center for Missing and Endangered Children (NCMEC) assists parents in responding to significant events related to children and the inappropriate use of technology. They track data related to their efforts. In 2020, NCMEC logged 21.7 million reports to their cybertipline.org. In 2020, NCMEC 37,872 calls to the cyber tipline regarding online enticement of children. This number represents a 97.5% increase from 2019.   Target Audience: Teachers, School Staff Development Professionals, School Administrators, School Counselors, School Social Workers   Fee: This training is brought to you at no cost, thanks to the generous support of The John K. and Lynne D.
