Specialty training for professionals who serve to protect children.

On May 14th, Liz Bartels from Project Harmony will come to the Charles Drew Health Center to conduct two training sessions for your group. From 10-12, learn about the basics of child abuse and neglect and mandatory reporting. Then, take a lunch break. This training helps participants recognize trauma, understand its impact on the brain and body, and identify and apply interventions to trauma related behaviors. This course is meant to provide foundational information on trauma for anyone that is new to the topic or would like a refresher on trauma basics. Trainees will also learn about the impact of trauma on their clients, themselves, and in the working relationship between child welfare professionals and clients.  Specific skills in how to apply trauma-informed practices in working with clients will be provided. The skills and thought processes coached through this series of trainings will allow you to work with clients and coworkers in an uplifting way, regardless of where they're coming from. You'll see strategies on de-escalation and change talk through a lens of compassion. Challenge your assumptions and reflexes.   In order to obtain credit for the Interpersonal Skills for Effective Interviewing Series, participants must attend all three trainings (Engaging through Empathy; Navigating Discord; Motivating Change). This course prepares mandatory reporters with the knowledge and skills to recognize and report child abuse and neglect along with an overview of the different types of abuse and their prevalence in Nebraska.  In this training, participants will discuss challenges associated with reporting abuse and neglect, practice asking minimal facts questions, and receive resources that will help with knowing how and when to report. Getting Diagnosis Right: Teasing Out the Difference in ADHD, Anxiety, and Trauma An accurate diagnosis is key to developing an effective treatment plan and reaching positive client outcomes. In this session, participants will become better diagnosticians by learning to spot the key differences in behaviors associated with ADHD, anxiety, and trauma. Better diagnosis will lead to a decrease in individuals being medicated unnecessarily or incorrectly and to an increase in the number of clients being served with an effective treatment plan. This training is open to any mental health professional who serves in a diagnostic capacity. The content is appropriate for those who need continuing education in the area of major mental health disorders. Read more
